About this talk

This presentation examines how buildings affect occupant health and ability to function v. how occupants affect the health of the school facility. Black, Latinx and Native American families in poor communities enduring the worst effects of COVID-19, and, when schools reopen children from those communities will return to some of the poorest schools in the worst physical condition: buildings lacking fresh air, operable windows, and vented classrooms, with broken sinks and toilets, molds, and flaking lead paint, among other persistent hazards. The justice and equity issues ahead are staggering as is the danger of the pandemic being fueled by ill-equipped or under-resourced local schools.
